YEAC IS HERE TO STAY REMEMBERING TO PREPARE, PLAN AND STAY INFORMED!!

Youth Emergency Action Committee (Y.E.A.C. III)

The Youth Emergency Action Committee (YEAC) was formed in September 2011, and is funded in part by USAID, CARITAS and CRS all of which are established organizations that deals with the well being of mankind.

Our project deals with disaster preparedness through MITIGATION it engages young people of ages 18 -35 in sensitizing their communities through various activities on Risk Management and reduction, and preparing for disasters.

PURPOSE OF GROUP: To work together to build a safer and more resilient community aimed at minimizing the Effects/Impacts of disasters, i.e., Hurricane, Floods, Fire, Earthquakes, Tsunamis.

A brief Summary of the YEAC project in Grenada

In the Island of Grenada there are three committees present this group are; Mont Tout, Gouyave and Victoria. Mt Tout was the first then Gouyave, and they both started in the first phase and finally Victoria which was formed at the end of the second phase. During the second phase (yeacII) Grenada YEAC has passed their target number in the Community SENSITIZATION which was 42 persons, but due to their Ready Campaign through secondary and primary schools they have reached over 1,800 persons. This Campaign was started on 1st March 2013.
During the first phase Mt Tout and Gouyave YEAC’s have done a VCA (Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment), this assessment was done to show the hazards that the communities are at risk to and how can they recover during and after massive disasters.

The third phase (yeacIII) which has a duration of six months started from October 2013 to March 2014. During this phase the Committees are required to sustain themselves by partnering with suppliers like local businesses and Stake Holders in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) example National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA). Finally, during this phase members were required to be certified in special training's which were; First Aid, Shelter Management and Rapid Assessment/ Response. This is to allow them to become sub-committee brigades so that they can be recognized and also to become local DRR decision-making platforms.

The training's are done by Red Cross, NaDMA, RGPF, St. John Ambulance and other stake holders in Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management.
